Friday + Saturday Sum Up

Friday - was really lame. Hung out with Casey, Molly and Emma and we went to the People's Cafe to get some food. And then...we walked around and ended up at the Embarcadero, where Molly left and we met up with Christina and Willie. We went to North Beach, hung out at a corner shop, then got on the wrong bus where we had to find another way just to walk down to Pier 39. Casey left and the rest of us walked back to the embarcadero. The best part of this night was at the island. Later Rich, Matt, Lomen, and I got to meet Colby from Macaframa and we chatted it up. Rich chilled at my house at night and that was it. Super lame ass day, especially the unneccessary long walk back to the island.

Casey withhis hair straightened. Saturday - Was soo much better. The weather was so nice. Hung out with Miles all day today. Went to Haight and got Mickey D's, saw a Prick Motorcyclist get in a fight with a bus driver, then went to Dolores Park which was crowded as fuck! We saw a skater trying to do flip variations on the edge at DP. Went to Eagle's Pizza got 2 slices of pizza and went to Miles' house where we played Tron and Halo for hours. Met up with Christian, and went to Eagles pizza for 2 more slices of pizza. Lots of food today!

The douche bag motorcylist (the one in the leather jacket) stood in front of the bus while it was turning. Since the bus is big it took up the right turn lane, where the motorcyclist was at. He fucking reported to the cops that the bus hit him off this bike. Bullshit, I saw nothing. And not to mention how long it held up the bus at the stop. What a prick. You can see a cop behind the lady with the pink.
Dolores Park was really crowded today! The weather was soo beautiful, everyone was out there! I saw Sally and George too!This is a big jump, I give props to the guy trying to do shit off of this. I didn't see him land anything but I bet he did later. They had a pretty legit as camera setup too.

Q: How did you meet? We, Alice (of the noise band Fetus Fatale) and Ethan (of garage-metal band Jakarta) met reading to the blind (it was community service work). After discussing modern music, and how no one is doing anything new, we decided we would try to create a new sound and genre as best we could.

Q: When did you start? How did your first microphone check become your first single? In the summer of 2004, i put together a cd of instrumentals and gave them to alice to write vocal parts. When she was ready, we went to a local studio to record our first 5 songs. When we were done, the studio gave us 6 songs. They had secretly recorded the microphone test and included it on the CD. I called the extra track "Alice Practice". Merok Records (London) heard the track and wanted to put it out on 7 inch, as the a-side. Our first microphone test became our first single. Merok pressed 500 copies and it sold out in 3 days. 7 ruined lives later and now this is our life.

Q: Is it true your sound developed from mixing an old arcade machine chip with your keyboard or something like that? No. I smushed a birthday cake into my keyboard.

Q: What sort of influences do you guys have? Listening to your work, I can genuinely say that it sounds unlike anything else around these days. There are bits and pieces of other genres, but I think you described it best by saying you "play rough." What sort of stuff did you listen to and enjoy to get to this point, though? Our music isn't influenced by anyone. In our heads, what we're doing is completely original. If we're wrong and someone else is doing this out there, that's fine too. We don't care.

Q: Describe your aesthetic. Large shiny chunks of vomit.

Q: Where did you come up with the name Crystal Castles? We are named after She-Ra, The Princess of Power's fortress in the sky. The commercial for the toy version of the castle includes the lines "The fate of the world is safe in Crystal Castles" and "Crystal Castles, the source of all power."

Q: Are you named after the Atari videogame "Crystal Castles"? No, We didn't know about the videogame at the time.

Q: You don’t seem to care about how much press you get. Why? We're not doing this for anyone's approval.

Q: Are there artists you'd like to work with? The Stooges in 1969. Joy Division in 1976.

Q: In your opinion, do you think music like yours and what's going on in England at the moment has a chance to spread in America? That question reminds me of herpes.

Q: Someone once misquoted you and said you started by accident. Explain what you really said. I told an interviewer that the song "Alice Practice" was an accident (Alice was secretly recorded while testing the studio's microphones). The interviewer quoted me as saying the band was an accident. As if we fell on a keyboard and 40 songs just appeared.

Q: Was there anything you listened to or experienced maybe when you were younger that has influenced your sound? Nothing from our youth has influenced our sound. We are influenced by change.

Duplicity

Don't watch this movie, it was horrible. I saw this last night with Rich, Christina, Claire, Olivia, Emma, and Kaitlyn. Basically it was 2 hours of confusion and $9 dollars down the drain. It had to do something about hair...and frozen pizzas.

The People's Cafe

Today was a very boring day. Kicked it with Kyle at the island, went home, met Willie at Guitarcenter and went from there. After Kyle left, Willie and i went to go hang out with Andy. He showed me the People's Cafe tonight and I gotta say that shit was delicious. They have everything! I got the person working there to get me a Shirley Temple, it was funny/ The food is amazing, they over cook everything just a little and it makes everything cripsy and yummy. I had the BLT and it was amazing and I have it on good word their Philly Cheese Stake is also really good. This is basically the highlight of my weekend. I can't decide which Andy quotes are funnier:
"One time I looked up tranny on google, don't ask me why and I saw a picture of my little pony, except it had like fake boobies and shit and like was dressed like a man. I made a stencil out of it and had a thought bubble that said 'Jerks.' I don't get it either"

"One time at haight, this chick comes up to me and was all like 'Can I shit on your face?' So I asked "Did u eat corn all day" She responded 'no,' and then i responded 'Then you can't shit on my face.' I know it was kinda fucked up."

Drivers Ed

I just started taking Driver's Ed today. I am such a n00b, cuz I'm 16 and a half... Word of advice, take drivers ed asap so you can driv when your 16. Stop dicking around on your bikes :). This is all I got today...sorry...stupid school.

Treasure Island Sessions

Chris Fonseca invited me to go ride the banks at Treasure Island today. Willie and I took the 108 at the Trans-Terminal Bay to get there. This was the first time I rode banks, and damn I had so much fun/ Got some nice fakie whips and sliders out. I also ate hella shit going up to far on a bank and fell backwards, with my bike following. My seat jammed into my neck, my knuckles scraped the floor, and my bike fell right onto me. Hopefully i can go back there next week! =)

So Sean was kind enough to drive from his house to my house last night at 9 to lend me his SE Lager fork so i could ride my bike today. In the morning, I called Valencia Cyclery and they said they had SE Landing Gear Forks. So I went and bought one and rode it. I went from an Affinity pursuit to this bike. The handling is so much different, fakies are insane, and I fell on my ass and shoulders multiples times. I love this bike.

Today...

was the last day of school for the week! Stupid midterms are finally over. Hung out with Melissa, Casey, Claire and Emma at Claire's house. We were gonna go to the Academy of Science, but we're just a bunch of lazy kids. We just fucked around and played guitar hero. Met up with Christina too and later we went to her condo and chatted it up. As i waited for muni, I met this Eastern European guy named Michael (weird pronunciation) and we talked about the economy, traveling, and Europe. It was pretty chill to meet someone like that. O and I sold my Affinity frame to Rai today!! Super happy and I hope Rai enjoys the frame very much.

Slumdog Millionaire

So I got out of school at 11:40 because of midterms. When I get home, I had nothing to do. I watched an Sxephil video on youtube and he mentioned Slumdog Millionaire and I decided to watch that. I went on movie6.net to see it on my computer. This has to be, by far, one of the greatest movies I have ever seen. I only got to watch an hour of it, but I don't think there is a movie out in theaters right now that has a better plot, filming techinque. I seriously suggest you watch this film if you haven't. I am def going to watch this film in theathers this weekend.

I got back from the church just a couple of hours ago. There were many people at St. Catherine's today mourning for the lose of Elizabeth Paolini. I won't go into much detail, but it was very depressing and beautiful. RIP Elizabeth, you're in God's hands now
